Class Code Summary:
Workers Comp class code 9554 is applicable to the outdoor billboard advertising industry and risks that engage in sign painting or lettering on the outside of buildings or other structures. It is used for employees that perform installation, repair, maintenance, removal, or replacement of billboard signs away from the shop location, not otherwise classified. This is an all-inclusive classification that is designed to include all away from shop workers in all areas of operations, including drivers. It includes the erection of billboards, signs, poster panels on buildings or in open spaces such as fields adjacent to highways. Operations include the replacement of advertising matter on billboards and the maintenance of the actual billboard sign. The advertising material falls into one of the following categories: poster advertising, painted display advertising, and electrical or electronic advertising.
Code 9554 is also applicable to insureds engaged in the rental or sale and installation of traffic barricades and similar traffic control devices.
Exclusions to class code 9554 would be anyone who works in a shop setting, even when performing similar duties to the ones covered under this classification, those who paint interior signs or lettering, and operations that install, maintain, repair, remove, or replace signs from floors or stepladders, both interior and exterior.
