Class Code Summary:
Florida Workers Comp class code 9501 is applied to employers engaged in the business of painting in the employer’s shop or those risks engaged in sign painting or lettering at a customer’s premises.
Examples of things painted includes sign painting and lettering, component parts made from wood, leather, glass, plastic, or metal, moldings, and interior walls, doors, and windows. Jobs will vary in scope by may include such things as preparing the surface to receive paint (by degreasing, sanding, or wire brushing), applying paint by hand (using a brush, roller, sprayer, or by dipping), drying of the paint in ovens, under infrared lamps, or natural ventilation, and pickup or delivery of goods to be painted.
Other jobs that are included within the scope of class code 9501 will include wood grain printing or vinyl plastic coating of moldings, glazing of metal bakery pans, those who strip and refinish furniture (but do not repair it), the coating of objects with nonmetallic substances (such as non stick), and the application of graphic designs onto materials.
Exclusions to class code 9501 include workers that engage in the exterior painting of signs or lettering, shops that paint vehicles, computerized plastic or vinyl sign manufacturing companies, and anyone performing electrostatic painting.
